Thanks for using Slate. These terms set out the rules for using it, and they form an agreement between you and us. Please read them before you sign up or start using the app. If you do not agree with them, that is okay, but then please do not use Slate.
Slate is run by XD Group. Right now that is one person working solo, based in India. When these terms say "we", "us", or "our", that is who they mean. If you need to reach us about anything legal or formal, write to xd.adarsh.xd@gmail.com.
You need to be at least 13 years old to use Slate. If you are under 18, or under whatever age counts as an adult where you live, you can only use Slate if a parent or guardian agrees to these terms on your behalf and is fine with you using it. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 treats anyone under 18 as a child, so for users in that range we rely on a parent or guardian giving consent. By using Slate you are confirming that you meet these requirements.
Keep your login details to yourself. Anything that happens under your account is your responsibility, so let us know quickly at xd.adarsh.xd@gmail.com if you think someone else has gotten in. Please give us accurate information when you sign up and keep it current. You can log in with an email and password or with Google, and if you use Google then their terms apply to that part too. You are also welcome to use Slate as a guest without an account, but guest data lives only on your device, so clearing your browser can erase it.
Please do not use Slate to do any of the following.
If you break these rules we can step in. That might mean taking down content, or suspending or closing your account.
Anything you create or upload on Slate stays yours. We do not claim to own it. To actually run the app for you, we need your permission to store that content and show it back to you, for example saving your canvases so they are still there when you come back or open them on another device. So you give us permission to host and display your content for the purpose of providing Slate to you. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from copies that sit in backups for a short while.
You are responsible for what you put on Slate, and by uploading it you are confirming you have the right to store and share it. We do not go through your content, but we can remove anything that breaks these terms.
Slate itself belongs to us. That covers the app, its design, the code behind it, and the names "Slate" and "XD Group". Your content is yours, but nothing here hands you any ownership of Slate. Please do not copy, resell, or reverse-engineer the app beyond what the law allows.
Slate is built on top of a few other services. Supabase handles login and data storage, Google powers the optional sign-in and map embeds, and Cloudflare hosts the site. Slate also lets you embed content from places like YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify, and Figma. We do not run those services and are not responsible for them, and using them falls under their own terms.
If you think something on Slate copies your work without permission, email us at xd.adarsh.xd@gmail.com. Tell us how to reach you, what the original work is, and where the copying material sits on Slate. Please also let us know that you genuinely believe the use was not authorised, and confirm that what you are telling us is accurate and that you have the right to make the complaint. We take valid complaints seriously and will act on them, which can include removing the material and closing the accounts of people who keep doing it.
Slate is provided "as is" and "as available". We do our best with it, but beyond what the law requires we are not making promises about it, including about whether it will always work, stay online, be free of errors, or keep every piece of data safe forever. Please keep your own backups of anything important to you.
This includes notifications. Timer alerts and any other notifications are sent on a best-effort basis and may arrive late or not at all, depending on your device, browser, permissions, and connection, so please do not rely on them for anything critical.
As far as the law allows, we will not be liable for indirect or knock-on losses, or for lost data, profits, revenue, or goodwill, that come out of using Slate or not being able to use it. If we do end up liable for something, the most we will owe you in total is whichever is higher of what you paid us in the year before the claim, or ₹1,000 (one thousand Indian Rupees). Some places do not allow limits like these, so parts of this might not apply to you.
If something you do on Slate, or your content, or you breaking these terms, lands us with a claim or a legal cost, you agree to cover us for it as far as the law allows, including reasonable legal fees.
You can stop using Slate and delete your account whenever you want, straight from inside the app. We can suspend or close your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we decide to shut Slate down. Once your access ends, the parts of these terms that are meant to outlast it still apply, such as content ownership, the disclaimers, the liability limit, and the section above about covering us.
We may change Slate, or update these terms, over time. When we make a meaningful change to the terms we will update the date at the top, and where it makes sense we will give you a heads-up. If you keep using Slate after a change takes effect, that counts as accepting the new version.
These terms follow the laws of India. If a dispute comes up, the courts of Uttar Pradesh, India will handle it. None of this takes away any consumer rights you already have under the laws of your own country.

This page explains what personal data Slate collects, why we collect it, how we look after it, and what control you have over it. It applies to slatexd.eu.org and the Slate app. The honest summary is that we try to collect as little as we possibly can.
Slate is run by XD Group, one person based in India. Under data-protection law that makes us the "controller", or the "data fiduciary" under India's DPDP Act. For any privacy question, request, or complaint, write to xd.adarsh.xd@gmail.com. That same address is our grievance contact under the DPDP Act.

We do not go looking for sensitive or special-category data, and we ask that you do not store that kind of data in Slate. Some things you add, such as images, can be saved only on your own device through your browser, and never reach us at all.
We use your data to run Slate and save what you make, to sign you in and keep your account secure, to catch and stop fraud, abuse, and security problems (including rate-limiting), to answer your questions and help you out, and to meet our legal obligations. We do not sell or rent your personal data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not take part in cross-context behavioural advertising.
If you are in the EEA or the UK, here is the legal basis for what we do. We process your data to provide the service you asked for, which is performance of a contract. We process it to keep Slate secure and to make it better, which is our legitimate interest, weighed against your rights. We process it with your consent where consent is what the law calls for, and you can take that consent back at any time. And we process it where the law requires us to.
Slate only uses the browser storage it genuinely needs to work, mostly to keep you logged in and to remember your settings and, for guests, your local work. In practice that means localStorage and sessionStorage for your session, settings, and login-throttle counters, IndexedDB for media you add (kept on your own device), and login tokens set by our auth provider Supabase to keep you signed in.
We do not use advertising cookies, third-party analytics, tracking pixels, or session recording. Because this is all strictly necessary storage, we generally do not need a consent banner. You can still clear this storage any time from your browser settings, though doing that will sign you out and may remove guest work saved on your device.
We only share data with the providers that help us run Slate, and only under proper safeguards.

We might also share data if the law requires it, to protect people's safety and rights, or as part of a future sale or transfer of the project, with notice where that is required.
We work from India, and our providers may handle data in other countries, including the United States and the EU. When data crosses borders, we rely on the protections those providers put in place, such as standard contractual clauses, along with whatever the law requires.
We hold on to your account and content for as long as your account is open. When you delete something, delete your account, or ask us to erase your data, we remove it from our live systems and from backups within a reasonable time. The one exception is anything we have to keep to follow the law, settle a dispute, or enforce our agreements. Guest data only lives on your device until you clear it.
Everything is served over HTTPS, so traffic between you and Slate is encrypted. Passwords are hashed by our login provider, which means we never see or store them in plain text. Database access is locked down with row-level rules, so you can only reach your own data. We rate-limit and protect the login system against abuse. And we run a Content Security Policy along with other hardening, and we clean user-generated HTML to cut down on cross-site-scripting risk.
No system is ever perfectly secure, so we cannot promise total safety. If a breach ever affects your rights, we will let you and the relevant authorities know, as the law requires.
What you can do depends on where you live. Here is the rundown.
To use any of these, email xd.adarsh.xd@gmail.com. You can also view, edit, and delete a lot of your data right inside the app, through profile settings and account deletion. We will check who you are and get back to you within the time the law allows.
Slate is meant for people aged 13 and over. If you are under 18, or under the age that counts as an adult where you live, you should only use Slate with a parent or guardian's consent and supervision. India's DPDP Act treats anyone under 18 as a child, so for them we rely on a parent or guardian's verifiable consent. We do not knowingly collect data from children without that consent. If you think a child has given us data they should not have, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy now and then. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above, and for bigger changes we will give you extra notice where we reasonably can. Carrying on with Slate after a change means you accept the updated policy.
